You would often hear parents tell their children to finish their studies no matter what the circumstances are because that is one thing that no one can take away from them; education. For poor families, it’s the only thing that they can impart to their children which they can bring with them wherever they go. But sometimes, due to the hardships of life, it may take a while before poor parents’ children may finish their education. When putting food on the table is hard enough, education sometimes takes a back seat.

Bryan Eric Olitoquit comes from a poor family in San Fernando, Camarines Sur. His father is a farmer and his mother is a barangay secretary so it took eight years before he was able to finish college. He took up Agricultural Engineering at the Central Bicol State University and he went viral after passing the Board Exam and getting the Top 6 spot.

The Top 6 board passer admitted that it wasn’t easy for him because he also had some failing grades. He also had a hard time doing his thesis. Despite all these, he didn’t stop working to achieve his goals.

His course would only take five years normally but given his situation in life; it took him eight long years to get his degree. He never gave up and just kept on trying even if finances were hard.

He had always believed that education will be his key to success and this will be the way to help him improve the life of his family. His story is truly an inspiring one. It only goes to show that when someone is eager to make his life better and achieve his goals in life, it’s possible and nothing or no one can stop him.

Php1,500 to Increase for Kasambahay in Metro Manila before the Year Ends

There had been ongoing talks about the increase in the salary of kasambahay or household helpers. According to reports, the Department of Labor and Employment is pushing a Php1,500 increase in their salaries. Silvestre Bello III, DOLE Secretary, revealed that the RWB (Regional Wage Board) had already approved the Php5K minimum salary for kasambahay. This is for the household helpers in Metro Manila only. They are just waiting for its formal implementation. The Secretary also reminded the employers to ensure that they give the benefit privileges to their household helpers such as PhilHealth, SSS, and PAG-IBIG.

The TUCP (Trade Union Congress of the Philippines) had been pushing for Php5K minimum salary for kasambahay in Metro Manila for several years now. It can be recalled that a Php1K increase in their salaries was approved in December 2017. This made the minimum wage then to Php3,500/month.

This was still not enough to cover for their needs so the request for Php5k minimum salary started. Rep. Neli Abayon of the Aangat Tayo Partylist had called for a Php1K increase in May 2019. This is because the household helpers are one of the most disadvantaged people in the society. They have also suffered during the 2019 high inflation but were not given relief.

Household helpers are one of the most unrecognized workers in the country. They are only given such a little salary but their work is endless. They are also maltreated at times. In the past, aside from receiving such a low salary, they don’t have any benefit at all. They won’t have anything to fall back on by the time that they can’t work anymore. Good thing that some lawmakers have started to take notice of their condition. At least now, they know that some sectors are giving importance to them.

Sometimes, one can’t help but complain when life seems too hard to bear. For the jobless and homeless, they would be complaining about not having a job or house. They would also probably feel self-pity because of their situation. On the other hand, those who have jobs but aren’t happy with it, they would also be complaining most of the time. Some students lose the motivation to pursue or be good in their studies. But there are some people who are truly admirable because, despite the hardships they are facing in life, they still try their best to make their lives better.

Recently a very young boy went viral on the net and inspired a lot of netizens. At a young age, the boy is very hard working. Netizen Fran Rusti shared the boy’s story on her Facebook account. She posted the photo of a boy in a jeepney together with the vegetables he was selling. The boy wasn’t even wearing slippers but he has a bag that also carries some of the goods he was selling. The boy is still young and shouldn’t be working yet but there he is; carrying a basin of vegetables and other goodies inside his bag.

Many netizens admired the boy and one commented that he should be an inspiration to other children and grown-ups as well. The netizen added that it doesn’t matter if he’s young or not, beause if he really needs to work at his age, he can’t be blamed.

Some friends of Rusti want to give the boy old but decent clothes and shoes because as can be seen in the photo, the clothes of the boy are old and ripped. Another netizen, Wencil Acosta, re-uploaded the post and it got more than 19,000 reactions and 28,000 shares.

It’s common practice in the Philippines to just leave the table looking like a mess when they are dining out. They leave it up to the crew to clean everything. They are probably thinking that it’s their job anyway. Since this is the usual thing that happens when dining out, when one sees a table that had been cleaned up, it becomes viral. A netizen’s post went viral recently for encouraging people who dine out to clear after they are done eating.

This suggestion was agreed upon by most of the readers. Others said that they have been practicing that whenever they dine out. Many readers have tagged their family and friends so they would do the same. Junery Ace Villa said that when you practice this whenever eating outside, there will be a smile on the face of the crew. He shared a photo with a clean table on his Facebook account.

All the glasses, plates, and bowls were neatly stacked together and there were no spilled sauce or drinks on the table. The crew would just pick them up and wipe the table to freshen it up. It would take a lot faster and would be easier for the crew and the next one to use the table won’t have to wait longer.

Lyka Nicole commented that cleaning up the table is the right thing to do. She added that even if it’s the job of the crew to do that, it won’t hurt if you help them a bit. Homer Menzi is a farmer in Tuba Benguet. He became trending on the net because of the giant white ube that he harvested. The root crop weighed 28 kilos and measured 6 feet. Homer is now dubbed as “ube man”. He revealed that they have been planting in that area before but they were only able to dig it recently because they went to Agoo. This is why it has grown so big. His cousin, Jayson Pacio, said that it was not the first time that they had harvested a big ube. They had harvested a 13-kilo ube in the past.

His cousin said they were happy with their harvest so they posted it on social media. An Agricultural technologist in Tuba, Benguet, Michelle Saingan, said that fertile and good soil is the secret in growing a giant ube.If the soil is soft, ube will grow better. She further said that the longer ube stays in the soil, it will shrink or rot. The agricultural technologist also said that the giant ube should be subjected to more study.

Homer had already sold the giant ube to a pasalubong store in Baguio City, Good Shepherd. The purchasing officer of Good Shepherd, Michael Amagod was stunned with the size of the root crop. He said that aside from the fact that the farmers of Benguet are organized, they are also planting seedlings with the best quality. This is probably the reason why they were able to harvest such a giant ube. Amagod added that he was surprised upon seeing an ube as big as that. The giant ube astounded the neighbors of Menzi and a lot of netizens who were very impressed with his harvest. Many photos have been circulating online and it already became viral on social media.

When you’re as young as nine years old, toys and playing with your friends are most probably the things that occupy your mind. When you’re at this young age, you won’t think much about the world and never worry about life. Most of the time, a nine-year-old would probably be hanging out with friends at the playground or watching cartoon shows at home. But the story of Laurent Simons is quite different because unlike most kids his age, he has already obtained a bachelor’s degree.

Laurent Simons is s nine-year-old boy from Belgium and is about to become the world’s youngest person to complete a university degree. According to reports, this young boy is presently enrolled at the Eindhoven University of Technology taking up a degree in Electrical Engineering. Simons will be graduating in December 2019 after completing the degree he took for only 9 months.

It was an extraordinary case, as a university staff described it. Laurent’s IQ is at least 145 and is now starting to plan taking up a Ph.D. program in Electrical Engineering. His father revealed that the boy is also planning to take up a degree in medicine while he’s taking his Ph.D. program.

The grandparents of Simons were the first to notice his gift followed by his teachers. His parents said that they said there was something special in him and that he was like a sponge. As such, the boy was given a series of tests to establish the scope of his talents.

Laurent went to school at the age of four and was able to complete a five-year study in twelve months. His tutor, Professor Peter Baltus, said that the boy was 3x smarter than the most intelligent student that he has ever met in his entire career.

Another teacher, Professor John Wilkes revealed that when Simon was just six years old, he already had the intelligence of a sixteen-year-old. His parents try to balance between Simon’s youth and talents. He plays with his dog just like normal kids. The boy plans to take a vacation in Japan.

John Gokongwei was one of the richest people in the Philippines before he passed away a few weeks ago. He owns several establishments like Cebu Pacific Airlines, Universal Robina, Robinsons Bank, and Robinsons Mall. He was able to give comfort not only to himself and his family but to thousands of Filipinos he was able to help especially to those that he had given work. His success didn’t come overnight and he had to go through many obstacles before reaching the peak of his success.

He was born to a rich family and had been accustomed to getting anything he wants. His father owns several cinemas in Cebu. When he was still studying, a driver would bring and fetch him to and from school. He studied at San Carlos University. Since he’s family is very rich, he had a lot of friends whom he would treat to free movies most of the time. Unfortunately, his father had an untimely demise when he was thirteen years old because of typhoid fever.

All of their businesses were foreclosed by the bank because of the loans of her father. Her mother was forced to send all of his siblings to China. He decided to stay behind to be with his mother. Being the eldest child, he knows that he has to help his mother and act as the head of the family.

He started working and with the ten cents left by his father, he started selling at the market. He would wake up at 5 am every morning. It was quite a long ride in his bike with his basket of goods. He would then set up a table there where he would lay his goods which include; thread, candles, and soap. He stayed there until every piece was sold. There were many competitors in the market but this didn’t stop him from doing his thing. He instead made sure that he will sell better than his competitors. He also looked for other ways to earn money. He was earning Php20 per day and it was enough for the needs of the entire family. He told himself that if he can compete with older people and support his family at the age of 15, he can do anything.

So, from a small buy and sell business, he was able to put up his own trading company together with his brother, Henry. It was called Amasia Trading which supplies imported foods and things from the U.S. He didn’t stop working even if his efforts were already paying off. There were times though that one business will go bankrupt of some companies would reject his business proposals but he kept on going until he was able to reach his goals for him, his family, and the Filipinos. He eventually had a family of his own and by the time that he was losing his stamina and getting weak, his brother, James and only son, Lance, handled the family business. He passed away on November 9, 2019, at the age of 93. Prominent people visited his wake including the President of the Republic, Rodrigo Duterte. A week after he passed away, his wife passed away too.

Sometimes, being resourceful is the best thing to do when you are going through difficult times. Take the case of this little boy who caught the attention of a netizen in the mall and took a video of him. The video was taken by Fran Rusti inside a Samsung shop and uploaded it on his Facebook account. He can be seen using a sample phone and writing something. The netizen asked the boy what he was doing and the boy admitted using the internet at the shop using the sample gadget. He was doing this for the research on his homework.

The boy said that they have no gadgets or internet connection at home so he decided to go to the shop to research. Rusti encouraged the netizens who saw the video to share it so that it will reach people who can help the boy. Many netizens admired the boy for being resourceful and not giving up. At his young age, he already knows how to survive in life.

One netizen commented that his parents are very lucky to have him because he’s trying his best to be good in his studies even if it can be quite hard for him. Another one said that children like him will most likely be successful when he grows up. He’s one of the children who try to make poverty an inspiration to study well and aim for something better.

A store in Kuwait was ordered to close shop after it was found using plastic eyes to keep fish looking fresh. They have been doing this to ensure that their customers will buy the fish even if it isn’t fresh anymore. As can be seen in the pictures, the fish seller had stuck the plastic eyes on the yellow eyes of the fish. A customer noticed this so he/she removed the fake eyes and true to his/her hint, it was really fake.

The video showing the fake eyes and its removal went viral on the net and when this reached the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Kuwait, it instantly ordered the closure of the store. It’s common knowledge that when the eyes of a fish turn yellow, it is not fresh anymore and had probably been rotting for two days or more according to the Gulf News. Just recently, there was a report too about a vendor who inserts fingernails in the fish to make it weigh heavier. This was followed by sticking plastic eyes.

Life is hard nowadays and every cent counts. Consumers work hard to have enough money to put food on the table. Having said this, it’s only fair to give the consumer his/her money’s worth. This article should serve as a warning to everyone to be vigilant whenever you’re buying fresh goods because many vendors are very dishonest nowadays.

Oro said that Lolo Bro had already resigned from the gas station but still goes there to offer his services so he can earn money from tips. The Syrian said that he used to go to the gas station during the time he was still studying and he was so glad that he and Lolo Bro will see each other in this situation.

The Syrian asked Lolo Bro to check the airs of his car then surprised him by giving him a tip of Php1,000 for each tire. But that’s not all; he also went with Lolo Bro in his house. Aga Muhlach MMFF Movie Entry “Miracle in Cell No. 7” – Trailer Touched Netizens

The first trailer of the remake of South Korea’s “Miracle in Cell no. 7 has been released. The original version was one of South Korea’s top 5 blockbuster films of all time. The Filipino version will open on cinemas in December 2019 and one of the entries at the MMFF (Metro Manila Film Festival). The movie stars Aga Muhlach, Bella Padilla, Zia Vigor, Joel Torre, JC Santos, Jojit Lorenzo, Mon Confiado, Soliman Cruz, and Tirso Cruz III. The movie was produced by Viva Films.

Miracle in Cell No. 7 is touching family melodrama with a touch of comedy about a man who has a mental condition. The story revolves around Lito (played by Aga Muhlach), who has a mental condition and was framed up for murder. While inside the cell, he became good friends with the notorious criminals.

The prisoners helped him to see his daughter (played by Zia Vigor) by smuggling her inside the detention center. Lito was wrongfully accused of murdering a child and since he has a mental condition, it became easy for the authorities to frame him up for the murder.

Aga Muhlach’s last entry at the Metro Manila Film Festival was in 2008 with Anne Curtis via the movie, When Love Begins. Aga Muhlach or Ariel Aquino Muhlach in real life was one of the bankable stars of his time. He has done blockbuster films with the megastar Sharon Cuneta, Aiko Melendez, Regine Velasquez, Claudine Barretto, and the star for all seasons, Vilma Santos. He is happily married now with former beauty queen and actress, Charlene Gonzales. They were blessed with twins who are college now. He went into semi-retirement for several years.
