Tips on How to Avoid Becoming a Victim of Investment Scam

Tips on How to Avoid Becoming a Victim of Investment Scam

Investments scams in the Philippines are rampant and the authorities are working double time to put a stop to this. Investment scams will continue to happen when people don’t stop falling for these straps. But, how do you know if what you’re getting into is an investment scam? Below are some tips so that you can avoid them.

Securities and Exchange Commission Alerts

The Securities and Exchange Commission is the government agency responsible for securities industries in the country. They have regular advisories regarding topics like finance and investments. You can check when they post alerts about legit and blacklisted companies. Reading these alerts can help you avoid investing in illegal investment schemes.

‘Easy, Quick, and Risk-free’ Investment Opportunities

Please keep in mind that there is no such thing as ‘get rich fast’. You need to work hard or wait for returns from your investments to happen. This can take years but if you’re patient enough then you’ll know that it’s worth it. Aside from that, some investments offer no guarantee but when it becomes a hit then you will receive high dividends.

Inquire with SEC

Don’t believe anyone tells you unless you have verified it. You’re investing your hard-earned money so it’s your responsibility to protect it all costs. The truth is, it’s easy to set up a corporation but the question is; are these companies asking money from you authorized to do so? That’s when you need to inquire about it. Go to the SEC office to ask the standing of the company asking investment from you. Go ahead and invest your money, only if, you find out that it is a legitimate business and allowed to ask investments from people.

Read also: How to Invest Time Deposit in the Philippines

To add, you can check with the Philippine Investment Funds Association if the company soliciting investments from you is legit. Otherwise; don’t invest a single centavo. You want your money to be put to good use, not the other way around.

Don’t Look at the Number of Investors

Don’t look at the number of investors, but rather, verify if the company exists and if it is legit. While you may be tempted to give in to a sales pitch, use that part of your brain that can think straight and won’t be fooled easily. When it is too good to be true, chances are, it is too good to be true. When you can’t verify the company, it’s because it isn’t a legit company. Don’t give away your money.

Investment Scammers will Force You to Give Money Right Away

Most if not all the people that will force you to invest right away are either part of the scam or being scammed themselves. There isn’t any deadline when investing. While you may want bigger earnings, investing with the right and reputable company is better.

Overseas Filipino Workers | OFW Loan Programs you may Need to Avail

Living the life of an Overseas Filipino Worker or OFW is not easy. People may think that OFWs are living the life but what they don’t know is how hard it is for these people to be away from their families just to earn a living. They are experiencing emotional pain while working to send money to their families.

Thankfully, there are many government agencies and private entities which recognize that. Because of that, these agencies are committed to serving these OFWs any way they can. One of the most helpful benefits that these agencies can offer OFWs is loans. Here are some of the things you should know if you are an OFW and you need to avail of a loan.

PAGIBIG Housing Loan

Filipinos working in the country aren’t the only ones who can avail of the loan programs of PAGIBIG. In fact, many OFWs can. Become a member of PAGIBIG and enjoy its lowest rates for housing loans which are between 3% and 5.375%. These rates are applicable to loans between Php580,000 and Php6M. You need to register as a member to avail their loan programs. Incidentally, SSS also has a housing program but truth be told the PAGIBIG Housing program is better. If you interested you may read the Pag IBIG Housing Loan Monthly Amortization Table.

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration or OWWA Loan

OWWA provides its members with business loans of up to PHp2M. They even provide training programs to help their members to start a business and gain knowledge about the business they are entering. OWWA charges a fixed rate of 7.5%. It’s not easy to get this loan though. Its members have to go through a strict screening process before they can avail of the loan. Often time, they also give the loan to the member who has the most potential to grow his business. Check also the other OWWA benefits you may get as an OFW.

Auto Loan by BDO

Many OFWs dream of having their own vehicles which are one of the fruits of their labor. A lot of OFWs also like to travel with their families and getting their own cars are dreams come true. BDO can help you with getting a car loan. The bank offers a hard-to-resist auto package and OFWs can loan between Php100,000 to around 80% of the value of the vehicle. They also offer flexible loan terms and provide an easy-to-pay scheme for OFWs.

SSS Salary Loan

Are you running short on money or a family member is? You don’t need to worry because SSS offers salary loan amounting to one or two months worth of your salary. It may also depend on your MSC or Monthly Salary Credit. Aside fro SSS salary there are lot of sss benefits you can get. Read here SSS Benefits that every Filipino should know.

How to Get DFA Red Ribbon Authentication for your Diploma, TOR, Form 137

0
How to Get DFA Red Ribbon Authentication for your Diploma, TOR, Form 137

A DFA ‘Red Ribbon’ is the unofficial term used for “DFA Authentication” process when applying for work abroad. You need this kind of authentication which proves that you went to school. In applying for work abroad, one of the most important documents you need to submit is your TOR or Transcript of Records. Submitting this proves that you graduated from college or a university. Jobs like a manager, accountant, nurse, doctor, engineer, and architect are the typical job openings which look for Transcript of Records as one of the requirements. Skilled workers applicants for sales, F&B, and more need not apply for this.

DFA Requirements and Getting Your TOR or Transcript of Records Authenticated by the Registrar’s Office

  • Bring three photocopies of your Transcript of Records (TOR)
  • Request for Certification of True Copies of your TOR from the School’s Registrar’s
  • Fill out the form for Authentication and Registration
  • Fill out other forms presented to you
  • Go to the registrar’s office and pay for the fees
  • Once you’ve finished filling up your requirements and forms, request and claim your Transcript of Records that have been certified
  • You must now go to the CHED Office
  • Submit your Certified TOR for ‘Red Ribbon’ Authentication
  • Fill up all the forms given by the CHED representative

SSS to Raise Contributions Rate for Higher SSS Retirement Benefits

SSS to Raise Contributions Rate for Higher SSS Retirement Benefits

Good things are happening for SSS members. The implementation of the new Social Security Act of 2018 will begin on April 1 of this year. SSS members will delight because this law states that retirement benefits will increase.

The current law enlists the increase of contribution rates to 12% which will start in the second quarter of the year (April). This is from the 11% from the former contribution rates. The soon-to-start Monthly Salary Credits is between Php2,000 to Php20,000/ According to Officer-In-Charge Aurora Ignacio, it is about time that SSS adjusts the contribution rates and the Monthly Salary Credits or MSC of the agency to increase the retirement benefits or its members.

She added that everyone who aims to have high SSS retirement benefits must work hard to earn for this monthly contribution. She also said that “SSS is the cheapest and most accessible pension scheme.” Because of this, she encourages everyone to contribute to SSS to save for their future.

The increase in monthly contribution for the members will pave way for bigger benefits for its members. Everyone who will give bigger contributions will definitely get bigger returns. An example of this is the sickness benefits. If you’re an SSS member and you have a monthly salary of Php20,000 and you already paid 12 months of contribution, you will get Php600/day sickness benefit which is Php142 higher than the present Php480/day.

Additionally, SSS members who already have 120 contributions from the former MSC maximum of Php16,000 will get Php6,400 as a basic monthly pension. Paying under the new MSC maximum of Php20,000 will give a member the new monthly basic of Php8,000.

According to SSS, it’s reasonable for the agency to increase the contribution rate by 1%. They cite an employee earning Php10,000 a month as an example. Currently, the monthly contribution rate of this kind of employee is Php363.30 which will be shouldered by the employee and Php736.70 which will be paid by the employer. This will now increase to Php400 and Php800 respectively.

An extra Php31B is earned through this law. In the coming years, there will be an additional 1% that will accumulate until the rates increase by 15% which is expected by the year 2025. This will also add to the fund life of SSS until the year 2045 through the implementation of the increases. This law is meant to improve the ‘investing capacity’ of the agency to provide a better income for everyone, Ignacio concludes. She also wishes that the member will understand why SSS had to increase their contribution rates which are to give more benefits to its current and upcoming members.
