Nowadays, it’s very seldom that someone will help others without expecting a reward especially if it will pose a danger to their life. But this policeman didn’t mind doing so after jumping into the Burnham Park Lake to help recover the phone of someone who’s a total stranger to him. He even did it for free. Andrew Borquil Tanghal, a tourist in Baguio City, dropped his phone accidentally at the Burnham Lake as he was about to get off the boat he was riding.
Tanghal’s phone is very important to him because it’s where he keeps all his prized memories. He so wanted to retrieve it but he was informed that it’s 9ft. deep contains glass bottles and the water is itchy. An old man who was in charge of the boats told him that he can have the phone retrieved for a fee.
It usually costs Php5,000 but there is one who only charges Php1,500. It became a dilemma for the tourist because even in grabbing the smaller charge, it will get him stranded in Baguio because he will have no more money to pay for the bus fare.
This was when the policeman offered to recover the phone. He saw the distress of Tanghal ad he told him that he’d get it for him. Tanghal doesn’t need to pay him anymore. All he would need is a pair of boxer shorts so he can change after jumping into the lake. The water was cold and itchy but this didn’t stop him from helping the distraught man.
Tanghal posted the story and the policeman’s photo on his Facebook account. Due to this excitement, he wasn’t able to get the name of the policeman but said that he’s very thankful and wished that there will be many more people like him who are willing to help without expecting anything.
