Gazini Ganados, Miss Universe Philippines 2019 recently attended the send-off event in Marikina City which was hosted by Luwalhati ng Maynila. This was her second visit to the institution which is the home of around three hundred senior citizens. The twenty-three-year-old beauty queen is from Talisay, Cebu. Ganados promised the senior citizens that she will be giving them eyeglasses to help them improve their eyesight. This is a fulfillment of her dream for her grandmother who had lost her eyesight.
The beauty queen shared that she grew up with her lola. It had been her dream in the past to be able to make her grandmother see the beauty of the surroundings that she’s able to enjoy and to travel with her too. Unfortunately, her grandmother had already passed away and she’s her angel now; guiding her from heaven.
For the fitting and distribution of eyeglasses for the seniors, she had entered into a partnership with a bank foundation. She hopes that it will be done before she leaves in December for the U.S. for the Miss Universe competition. She’s keeping her fingers crossed in the hope of winning the crown.
Gazini has also asked Manila Mayor Isko Moreno if there is anything else that the center needs. One of the seniors told her that medicine is the top priority because not all pharmacies give a 20% discount. The Php500 senior citizen’s allowance is also not enough to cover for their medicines.
The Beauty queen said that the event will be something that she will remember before leaving for the competition. According to the Director of the Coalition of Services for the Elderly, Emily Beridico, they will be able to reach out to the millennials in having Gazini as their ambassador. Being a beauty queen, she has an edge in influencing young people to help out.
